About + FAQ

Who I am

To your project, I will bring over eight years’ experience creating highly effective websites for start-ups, small business, nonprofits, and multinational corporations alike. As an entrepreneur with corporate experience, my diverse background also includes strategic consulting, business development, and project management. This ability to understand the needs and perspectives of individual business owners enables me to work seamlessly with clients and their internal teams.

I find inspiration from travel, new environments, and all forms of design. I’m passionate about delving into “unsolvable” business problems – and creating solutions that actually deliver a return on investment. My goal is to provide clients with first-class service and top-notch results – all for much less than what agencies charge. What makes me different is my focus on your goals and purpose for the project. Before we even think about colors or fonts, we’ll discuss questions like:

  • Who’s your target market?
  • What compels them?
  • How will you measure the success of this website? In clicks? In sales revenue?
  • What action do you want your users to take?

And that’s just a fraction of the information I gather before preparing to design your site.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a website cost?

That’s the question on every client’s mind. There is so much confusion over what a website should cost, and many organizations have difficulty evaluating the benefits of their website investment. That’s right, I said investment. I ask all prospective clients to identify the specific benefits they hope to achieve through the project. Are you seeking more sales? A better company image? Brand awareness? An easier website for your customers to use?

The total cost of your project will depend on many factors, including:

  • Number of pages or sections that need to be designed
  • Programming techniques used
  • Whether or not you need a content management system (CMS)
  • Special features such as blogs, shopping carts, forms, database apps, membership accounts, payment processing, interactive widgets, etc.
  • The level of graphic design required (sparse minimalistic sites can sometimes be just as complicated as highly graphical ones)
  • SEO needs

While I won’t compete with the guy you found on Craigslist, I will offer a total solution that is aimed at solving your business’ problem or delivering the ROI you are seeking (ideally, the website would pay for itself). You will find that my fees are quite reasonable if you are comparing with large agencies. I can work within many different budget ranges, but the more you are willing to invest in your project, the more time I am able to dedicate to you and your project. How long does it take to get a website up?

It depends. There are many variables in a project that can increase or decrease the amount of time required to finish the job. You’ll appreciate the fact that I work on a fixed project fee, not an hourly rate – so you are only paying for the end product, regardless of how much time it takes to get there. As part of my project proposal, I include a detailed timeline which lays out estimated milestone dates and corresponding deliverables. You’ll know exactly what to expect, and when.

Because every project is unique, it’s difficult to give a general timeframe. The smaller projects tend to require 4 weeks (including meetings, initial concepts, designing the site, and programming the site). Larger projects can last 2-3 months or more. Please submit my quote request form to find out what a realistic timeline for your project might be.

Will you meet with us in-person?

Well…that depends on where you’re located! I usually find myself in Southern California, but also frequent New England and New York City areas. But, if the size and scope of your project requires it, I am able to meet with you at your location anywhere in the United States. I am also a huge fan of Skype video chat – it’s a free, easy way to meet “face-to-face,” and helps reduce our carbon footprint.

What programming languages and CMS systems do you use?

As far as web programming languages, I am well-versed in XHTML, CSS, PHP/MySQL, JavaScript, and most other technologies used to develop front-end interfaces including popular frameworks and libraries.

Regarding content management systems, I have used the WordPress platform extensively and believe it to be an ideal solution for many projects (not just blog sites). In some instances, WordPress might be too robust, and there are simpler CMS systems available for those cases. If an e-commerce site is what you’re after, Magento or WP E-Commerce are excellent options. After learning more about your specific needs, I will recommend the best solution for you.

Do you work with all types of clients?

I love working with anyone who is passionate about their business’ success. My ideal client views their website as a valuable marketing and/or customer acquisition tool, not just something “nice to have.” If you have a realistic budget and timeline, and are willing to trust me to develop the best solutions possible, then we should probably talk.
